As you can see I haven't posted on here for a very long time! I've spent the summer in New York and what a great time I had. I've also done something that I said I'd never do and that's return back to studying. I've found my passion in life...relationships. Week 39 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

I've got 3 weeks to go. I can't believe how the time has flown by. I find my self wishing it would slow down as I've still got so much to do. I still need to acquire a large suit case as I refuse to pay £32 each way for extra luggage. I need to book my travel insurance and try to raise at least £700 for spending money hmmm.

I will complete my show reel tomorrow. I just need to try and find a music bed to put underneath and smooth out the finishes. I'll continue to cold call producers and radio stations. The more I do it the easier it has become. I no longer feel the nerves when hearing the over seas dial tone wondering what I'm going to say. If they say no, it's onto the next one. I always said that I wanted to be pushed out of my comfort zone (be careful what you ask for) and it seems this trip is going to do just that. I'm going to have to try and set up some meetings whilst out there and drop off my CV to as many media outlets possible. The thought alone daunts me but it has to be done. I don't have much choice as I still haven't found any concrete work. It will be good experience for me to be honest. I'm also going to try and get on to some chat shows the Maury Povich show, Steve Harvey show etc. It's all research for my upcoming blog and counselling degree which starts in October.

What do I want from my time away? A good experience which I know I will gain, to meet new people, to socialise more, for my confidence to grow to name a few. I know this is going to be one of the best summers of my life.

I'm still yet to secure a work placement. I've been speaking to some family members and they seem to think that something will turn up whilst I'm out there. I've continued to put the calls in as e-mail can be a bit too long winded. At least with a phone call you'll get an immediate response. It's sometimes tricky trying to fit in phone calls around and after work. Especially with the whole time difference etc.

Am I excited....yeah I'm getting there. I'm a little apprehensive with no proper work to do as of yet. I pray this changes before the end of July. My heart is still set at doing a few days at Hot 97 (maybe this is the problem). I guess it's because I had so much planned. By this stage I'd expected to have a few work placements secured. A lot more money put aside etc. It just goes to show that no matter how much you try sometimes things don't always go to plan.

This week I've pulled my socks up and started to call people/companies. It's a life long dream of mine to work at Hot 97 as well as meet Diddy. If I met trust me I'd probably faint!

So I've started to stalk the folks over in New York. I've been calling several different urban radio networks. The problem is I can't seem to get no one. I know who I need to talk to they just never seem to answer their phone. I know persistence is key and I will eventually get them.

I can't believe I've got 5 weeks left to go, where has the time gone? I've still got to book my travel insurance, buy a large suit case, finish my show reel, amened my CV, continue researching entertainment stories, try to put aside as much spending money as possible. Oh the list continues and my head is beginning to hurt. I must confess I haven't used my time as wisely as I should. Although it's not too late and it all depends on how constructively I use my time from now on.

Week 36 of My Journey Getting To New York.

I've been researching all the events, places I want to go too this week. As well as all the things I can cover whilst doing my entertainment slot whist in the states. I'm actually really looking forward to it! Whilst this is supposed to be a working trip, i still want to get to enjoy the city.

I just need to pay another £100 towards my rent and everything will be paid for. I still need to buy a suitcase, but the way my finances are looking I may have to borrow one. I need to get my travel insurance and put aside some survival money. This trip is not about shopping not one bit. The way things are looking I'll be eating pizza slices every day.

I really need to get back to searching hard for a placement and as time is ticking I'm going to have to change my approach.....clearly! I KNOW I will secure one. It may not be in the form or the kind of placement that I endeavour but I will get one.

Week 35 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This week I finally booked my flight, hallelujah. My friend kindly gave me some of his air miles, so I get to fly with Virgin. I'll probably be broke for the remainder of the month, but my flight had to be booked. Plus it's one less thing to worry about financially.

I've also been given the opportunity to do a weekly entertainment slot from New York to London. This will be fun and exciting and will also push me out of my comfort zone. Although I don't enjoy the process this is what I definitely need whilst in America. I'm still determined to find a placement but in the mean time I'm going to see what work I can do for outlets her in the UK whilst away. Not only does it build up my confidence and skills but also my CV.

Again this week has been productive in light of advice and friendly pointers that will most definitely help my time away be more productive. If there's one thing that I'm praying for is that my trip is not wasted and that I don't come back with any regrets.

This week has been so busy, I didn't complete half the tasks I was supposed too, story of my life! I still can't believe I haven't secured a work placement. Not good...not good at all. I can't help but compare how easy it was to get a placement last time. All I can is step my game up and trust in the Lord.

I must confess my finances aren't looking to great at the moment. It looks as though I'll be eating pizza slices and bagels during my stay in New York. Who knows I may even loose some weight the rate things are going.

There is still so much for me to do, book my flight, sort out my insurance, buy a suitcase, FIND A WORK PLACEMENT, do a whole heap of research. Time is well and truly ticking but I seem to work better under pressure. Then again I'm going to have too as really don't have much choice.

Week 33 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This week was a real eye- opener and a bit of lesson learnt. I was given the opportunity to go and intern at ITN in Washington for 3 months this summer. Whilst I know this is a once in a life time opportunity, I really don't have the money to go. I'm still trying to sort things out for New York and after much deliberation I missed the boat.

The key factor for me was money as I have to pay rent on my flat here as well as accommodation in Washington. This would have probably resulted in me getting a loan/credit card......my worst fear. However my friend informed me that if used wisely it would have been a good investment. I'm not sweating it because if it is God's will then I will get to go and work out there. I'm going to New York for 5 weeks which in itself is a great opportunity and I've made a great contact with the producer from ITN. I'm aiming to go out to Washington for the day and have a meeting with him.

This slight diversion has reminded me that I need to stay focused and sort out this New York trip. It's also enforced that I am more than capable to provide a good service and has given me a confidence boost. I'm really glad for life's lessons as they give you the knowledge, experience and confidence for next time.

This week has been good for my confidence and a reminder that God is working on my situation. There have been little specks of light here and there to remind me that God is in control.

I continued to e-mail companies and I received some good responses, not necessarily yes's but enough to remind me that I'm more than capable of providing a good service whilst out there. I will tell all next week as then it will all make sense, plus I would have made some decisions. A friend kindly advised me that I can offer up my services and do some broadcasting, interviews whilst out there and send them back for work. I must confess this idea never crossed my mind. I really struggle to think outside of the box sometimes.

I put a little bit of money aside as I really need to book my flight. It just goes to show that no matter how much we try, things don't always go to plan. I know my flight will be booked soon and I just pray that I have enough money to get few the 5 weeks whilst out there.

This week I've continued to e-mail/ call companies to make them aware I'll be in America during the summer and can I come and get some work experience. You'd like to think that me offering my services for FREE would cause a stampede and that people would be fighting over me lol. Well it's just not the case!

I had put my hopes on doing a couple of weeks at The BBC in Washington and after chasing/stalking/e-mailing the producer for weeks on end. I got a response this week saying there are no openings oh well another one bites the dust. I will be contacting him closer to the time to give it one last shot. It's not about putting all my eggs in one basket. I just would have loved the chance to see Washington and experience working out there for a week. My main focus for the next couple of months is to lock down a placement....YES I CAN!!!!!

Can you believe I only have 11 weeks to go before I fly off too...concrete jungle where dreams are made of....there's nothing you can't do- whoo! New York I'm coming baby lol.

This week I sat down and made a 11 week plan/checklist as there is still a lot that needs to be done. The most important is to find a work placement, set up as many meetings as possible, book my flight, sort out my insurance to name a few.

However I managed to put down a substantial amount of money this week- thank God. This has allowed me to pay off my rent on the apartment in New York, thankfully that is now out the way and one less thing to worry about. Booking my flight has been delayed as the apartment was more of a priority. It's always nice to get the most expensive thing out the way first- right?!?!?. Plus I'm still hoping that they'll be some miraculous deal where flights are £400 (side-eye)

It's so funny how you can save money when you have a goal in mind. I really need to get my savings in check on my return form as this trip has proved I can save when pushed too. I won't lie the next few months will be extremely tight and I'll probably have to eat beans on toast but it'll all be worth it in the end. At least I can say I did something big for 2010.

My bad I forgot to do my post until mid week, so I've sneakily uploaded it now. This week i started my Psychology course...what has this got to do with my trip to New York?!?!? I don't know but I wanted to drop it in lol. Plus I'm sure that studying the human mind, sciences and emotions will only help further me in my career, increase my confidence and help me within some aspects of my trip abroad.

I've been fretting quite a bit over the last few weeks and I don't know why? I've found myself comparing this trip to my time away two year ago. At this stage my work placement was secured with such ease. I got a flight for £300. Accommodation was confirmed, it was central and provided breakfast and dinner. Things just seemed that much easier last time round and so much more cheaper. No doubt this trip will be just as good if not better but in different ways. I am hoping to book my flight next week as prices are slowly creeping up.

I managed to put some money aside this week- whooh hooh! No doubt I won't see any of it, as my flight will be booked within the next two weeks. It still feels good to be able to put a little some thing away regardless of the amount. I really need to earn some more money and have started job hunting again. Lord help me puhlease!!!!!!

This week I've been reflecting on what it is I'm trying to achieve whilst in New York. It's all good me saying I want to go out there to work, but what is my goal? I need to sit down one evening in silence and do some brain storming hmmmm. I know I want to be pushed out of my comfort zone, after being stagnant for way too long now. Not only is it boring but also very frustrating. I want a challenge and I want to work in a new area other than the media. I guess the thing I want the most is to go out there and give it my best shot. After that there's nothing more I really can do. I don't want to come back with regrets like last time. Shoulda, woulda, coulda can be left to the likes of Beverly Knight- thank you!

Week 27 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

I haven't done as much as I'd wanted to this week apart from e-mail a few more contacts. I don't feel guilty either to be honest. I've been so consumed with life in general, ideas for my new blog, devising ways to make extra money etc, stressing about life that NYC preparations have fell to the way side a little.

That's how life goes sometimes and I just can't be bothered to beat myself up about it. Been there done that way too often and as we know it doesn't help! I'm still yet to book my flight and it seems there is no way of me avoiding paying up to £600. (Note to self don't go to New York peak time again). My finances aren't looking to great at the moment but again I can't be getting stressed about it as it's not going to help the present situation. I have to remind myself that this whole experience is taking me out of my comfort zone and the ride is not going to be easy or comfortable.

Hopefully this week will be a bit more productive and I'll have more to report back next Sunday.x

This week I've been so consumed with a new project that I'm working on EVERYTHING else has kinda been neglected. I've continued to contact companies and I've pulled my finger out and started to make more phone calls. It's not that bad really although some managers are hard to find but persistence is the key. What's the worst they can say apart from NO!

People have been so responsive it's quite encouraging and one company may look promising as they haven't said no to my request but they want to know a bit more about what I do, where I'm staying etc. If they can't give me work I want to at least secure a meeting.

I'm starting to get a little excited now, especially with the arrival of spring. Lord knows how hot it's gonna be in NYC.

I must confess I really enjoyed 'Twighlight'. So much so that I brought the sequel 'New Moon'. No doubt I'll be buy 'Eclipse' too when I get a chance.

Next on my hit list is 'The Kite Runner'. After reading 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' I fell in love with the authors style of writing and the issues he tackles in his books.

This challenge has been really good for me as it's pushed me to read/buy more books. I doubt I'll read 25 books this year, which I must admit was a little unrealistic. As I don't complete books that quickly regardless of how engrossing they are. However I'm definitely reading a lot more than I used too and there's nothing better than reading a book you just can't put down.

Week 25 already- phew! I received my new passport yesterday whoody whoo! On a side note I really want to start travelling a lot more and Brazil is next on my list for 2011. I've been talking about going there for way too long now.

This week I've continued to e-mail companies and people have been so nice with their responses. They've advised me on the best person to contact and to keep them updated with my progress.(Note to self I must keep in touch and maybe meet up with them whilst in New York). I still haven't received the three important words yet.....yes, but i know I'm putting myself out there so it will pay off eventually.

I hold my hands up I didn't finish my show reel but I did start it. The reason being I don't like the material I have or maybe I'm just making excuses lol. Maybe I'm being too picky but I know the standard I want it to be. I'm going to sit down again this week with a clear head and try again.

This month I must book my flight and I need to put a few hundred pounds away. As I need to pay the remainder of the rent on the apartment by the end of next month. Let the games begin!!!!!!!!!!!

Week 24 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This week I will finish off my show reel as it's been pushed to the side a little. It's been a hectic week and juggling everything has been a challenge.

I've more or less ticked everything off my February check list. My passport's been sent off for renewal that's one less thing to fret about. I haven't saved as much money as I intended but I haven't got time to stress about that, there's bigger fish to fry.

I've consistently e-mailed companies and am finally getting responses (persistence pays off) not necessarily what I want to hear, but a response is better than silence. Some have said I need to be a student to work for their company that's a very common thing in the states. I think they get merits or something *shrug*. Others have stated that I've missed the date to work/intern or that it's a bit early to secure a date at this point and they'll get back to me. I still need to broaden my search which I will start to do next month.

I've also started to look at flights as that has definitely got to be booked by the end of April. My gosh flights are soooo expensive but what do I expect I am travelling peak season. The cheapest flight is about £530 that's a lot considering I could go in September for £300 never mind. A friend has offered to give me some of their air miles enabling me to fly with Virgin (we all know Virgin is best) so I'll save just over £100. I'm still open to fly with a cheaper air line and if I see a good offer I'll jump on it .

I feel there is so much to do and time is flying. However I know it will be worth the tears, prayers, sacrifice, the fear of not knowing what will happen when I get out there and what awaits for me when I return. It's a challenge and an adventure I won't forget, plus it'll probably be one of my best memories for 2010.

Reflection Eternal Welcome Back!

I for one am happy this duo is working together again. I'm not the biggest fan of their work individually but I think their real creativity comes out when they collaborate. I don't own any of Talib Kweli's albums apart from Reflection Eternal. I do however own two of Hi-Teks albums simply because I thought they'd be as good as Reflection Eternal considering he's the producer. They were alright, but then how many artists have more than one really good album these days?

I'm not expecting this album to be a continuation of Train of Thought, but my initial thoughts after hearing this track was these guys are trying to bring hip-hop back or at least try and revive it. It sounds real old school and the beats are just.....simple hip-hop. It’ll be interesting to see what the rest of the album sounds like.

Pyschology Here I Come.

I’ve always been interested in this subject and regretted not studying it at college. I've been umming and arghing about what to do after feeling a bit bored. I enjoyed participating in the Drama and Vocal Training Course and wanted a new challenge. So I enrolled on a 10 week beginner’s course on Monday which will commence on April the 29th.

I want to understand people’s social, emotional and mental behaviour better, although I don't love sciences as such. However I’m willing to learn an element of it in relation to Psychology. This course will benefit me on so many levels, I really can't wait. It will help me to understand and maybe sympathise when people act a certain way and I’m sure it will help me grow as a person, build my confidence and more importantly help me on my quest to do more public speaking. I love a challenge and although it doesn’t feel good at the time, being pushed out of my comfort zone always benefits me.

I've actually got about three books on the go at the moment. I was reading Beyond Ugly but I just couldn't get into it, not that I tried that hard! I've decided that if I don't like a book I'm not going to force myself to cpmplete it. So Beyond ugly has returned to the book case and I've given Twighlight a whirl.

I'm not really into the whole vampire, dark eeerie storyline but intrigue got the better of me. I started it yesterday and I can't put it down. It seems everyone and their mother has read this book or watched the movie. So I decided to jump on the band wagon.

Week 23 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

Another week has flown past and what have I done? I've finally sent my passport off for renewal, what a palaver. At least that's out the way and I should get it back within the next month or so.

I also started my show reel which I will complete this week. My aim is to hand this out whilst in New York. You just never know what doors it will open for me, even if it's ten years from now. It will consist of packages, adverts, voice overs and snippets of entertainment slots I've done. This will all have to be condensed down to no more than 3 minutes.

It was really interesting to hear myself back and to critique my performances. I usually hate hearing the sound of my voice but it was necessary if I want to get better. I have learnt so much since doing my Drama and Vocal Training Course and as a friend of mine said you only get better with practice. I'm looking forward to my next stint of Entertainment News (I'll fill you in with that later).

This week I will continue to call/e-mail companies and think of ways to earn some extra income.

Carbs Not Good!

These damn carbohydrates are becoming the bane for me! For the last couple of weeks my stomach has been feeling extremely bloated and I couldn’t figure out why. It wasn’t an unbearable feeling just a little uncomfortable from time to time. I now know it’s down to the carbs and unfortunately my age. Long are the days when I could just yam anything and not worry about my shape/ weight altering? Not any more I tell ya I’m 29 this year and my metabolism has well and truly s-l-o-w-e-d down. I can feel the middle aged spread slowing trying to grab me lol. I used to laugh it off when people would say you’re lucky, you’re at the age you can eat what you want, not any more yo.

All jokes aside I’m an avid fitness bunny and go to the gym at least 3 times a week plus throw in a game of squash. So I’m quite fortunate to have a decent physique at the same time I want this shape within the next 5 years. I need to now start watching what I eat and resist the Jaffa Cakes, Doritos, Haribo you name it. I’m a sucker for all things that aren’t good for me. I’ve got such a sweet tooth, but this bloated feeling is just not worth it. So I’ve decided to not eat carbohydrates so late at night any more (cut off is 7pm) and be more disciplined with my diet. I really want my washboard stomach this summer and the gym alone is not cutting it.

**PS I’m going to a free boot camp session next Monday so that should be interesting and no where near FUN at all!

Whatcha Say?!?!

I said I'm not too sure about Jason Derulo. First and foremost I didn't know that my boy used to rock a cornrow?!?!? No comment! Back to present, so I have to give him some props as he dabbles in song writing. Other than that I just don't love this guy. I guess there’s a gap in the market for a young male artist at the moment but still.

Yes his new single 'In my Head' is currently number one here in the UK but that don't mean nardah to me! When he first debuted with 'Whatcha Say' I thought yeah the song's not too bad, I was more disappointed with the video...it was just… dry! Which brings me to his latest video and I just don’t love it. It’s similar to Justin Timberlake’s 'Like I Love You' and it just doesn't seem his style. He comes across contrived and forced to me; the dance routines are just cringe worthy. I just find there’s something not authentic here. I know I may sound harsh but I don't know what it is? I can't quite put my finger on it but he just comes across as cheesy! Yes I may end up eating my words if he becomes the next big thing but I just can't see the vision. Then again who cares what I think as he clearly has a strong fan base accumulating.

Bargain Of The Month!

I picked up these shoe/boots in Primark Marble Arch. I didn't intend to buy anything and was actually looking for a replacement pair of brogues. Then I spotted these bad boys in the reduced section, I picked them up and noticed they'd gone down from ~~£15~~ to £3. Is that not a joke £3 for a pair of shoes? I tried them on and wasn't convinced as they're a bit baggy round the calf. Plus I thought they looked a bit cheap as the zip detail on the side had a pleather ribbon on (which I quickly removed). After trying them on at home and little deliberation I was hooked. The outfits I can wear them with this summer are endless, shorts, leggings, dresses, skirts you name it. Plus the heels not too high so my feet shouldn't start burning any time soon. If push comes to shove I can wear them now with a nice dress and a thick pair of tights.

As you can see they look a lot better on....

I couldn't be bothered to put an outfit together plus my hair needs a perm so there is no way I'm providing a full length shot.

Week 22 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

What have I done this week.....nadah! Just playing I have continued to e-mail and call media companies. It's been a mixed bag of record companies, Television and radio stations. I still haven't received the three magic words YES as of yet. I'll continue to put in the calls next week so hopefully something positive will come out of that. I also have to broaden my search a bit more.

I've had a slight set back financially as my February pay wasn't what I expected, so I was unable to put any money aside for New York. I wanted to put away at least £300 but it just wasn't feasible. I felt a little frustrated and annoyed and started to question whether I'd have enough money over all. That was my moment of weakness but I've got to stay focused and trust in God as he always comes through for me.

My feelings have waivered quite a bit this past week and I think it's because I still have my flight, rent and survival money to sort out as well as find a work placement. I just feel slightly uneasy and unsettled but as we all know things can seem rubbish one day and then it's a totally different situation the next. I'll keep you posted with how things get on! x

I have been going on and on about orange lipstick for at least a year now. I WILL be buying one within the next few months. I really like the look of the M'Orange Lipstick by M.A.C in the picture. I'm still not sure if it's going to look okay hence why I'll have to pay a visit to M.A.C. So that they can help me find the right shade. This is going to be my staple lipstick for the whole of the summer I can feel it tangerine lips here I come!

Coral lippie is another colour I want to rock this summer. Just two lipsticks will do me fine.....I'm not asking for too much am I??? My friends cousin gets a discount so I'm going to have give her a nudge in my direction.

I think I was being a bit ambitious when I set myself the challenge of reading 25 books this year. It’s not impossible but I simply don't have time to complete such a task. Plus some of the books I've got lined up are thicker than an encyclopaedia and it will take me at least a month to finish them.

I've just completed ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ and what a brilliant book it was. It was so emotive and helped me to see what life in Afghanistan is like particularly for women. Most importantly it showed me how real domestic violence is…not good!

I’m now on my third book ‘Beyond Ugly’ the sequel to ‘Ugly’. It’s been on my book shelf for at least a year now and I’ve finally decided to read it. I can’t say ‘Ugly’ was one of my favourite books but I’m going to complete it so that I can go onto my next read ‘The Kite Runner’.

Hemp Is The Way To Go.

These two items have really been my saviour against the cold wintery weather. Thank you Body Shop Hemps range. My friend first told me about Hemp Foot Foot protector early last year and I thought okay I'll check it out until I saw the price tag... £10. I can be so cheap some times it's not good!

I used to use Palmers Cocoa Butter on my feet as they have a tendency to get dry but I can honestly say Hemp is very good. You only need a small amount and the jar should last you at least 6 months. I have been using this products religiously morning and night for the past 2 weeks and I've noticed the difference. Both products leave your skin well moisturised and my feet and hands are left looking well nourished all day long. At least my feet will be ready to slip into my sandals this summer- hoorah!

These are so nice and summery, from the cream colour to the style...oh so lush! Yes I habitually post shoes that I drool over but they are the one item that will transform your look in second. I may have to pop down to Matalan this week to scoop these. Do you know how hot these would look with a nice floral play suit. Or some khaki trouser and a white vest or just simply a fitted dress.

I love the burnt orange colour of these shoes...I don't own an orange pair of shoes yet (side-eye). I'm still a sucker for zip detailing and I can see myself trotting around the streets of New York in these babies this summer. I'd team them up with a pair of grey feminine tracky bottoms and a body suit or crop top. Harem pants and a nice lace boob tube (don't worry I'd wear something underneath). Or even a blue jumpsuit would look nice, something similar to the one below.

Week 21 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

It's week 21 of my journey getting to New York and I have 21 weeks left until I depart. I find that I'm pushed to work harder as time is ticking. You know how it goes some people work better under pressure.

This week has just been about contacts, contacts and more contacts. I took the plunge and started to call up media companies. Time is flying and I can't rely on e-mails alone. I must confess the 1st company I called in the states I left the phone ring a couple of times and then put it down. Yes I hold my hands up I left fear get the better of me for a split second and then I took the plunge and started to make those all important phone calls. Surprise surprise it wasn't all that bad! Obviously the more companies I call the easier it gets. I was hoping that the companies I contacted would be like yeah sure of course you can and come and work for us. However the general response was to follow up with an e-mail or to contact some one else. I must remember to be patient and that most things don't happen instantly. Just because there's a delay doesn't mean it won't happen! Most importantly I must trust in the Lord.

Just as strong muscles are built by lifting heavier and heavier weights, confidence is built by taking on bigger and bigger challenges (Ralph Marshton). I find this is so the case as my confidence grew when I went to New York two years ago and I'm pretty sure it will grow even more this time round.

I love Nia Long always have, always will. Ever since she played the role of Will's girlfriend Lisa in 'The Fresh Prince of Bel Air' I was hooked. She looks absolutely stunning here in a silver and gold dress and cream shoes at the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon. Her hair looks on point as always...I'm so glad she's gone back to short. I'm itching to cut my hair shorter as it's grown a bit and this style may just be the one.

My Finances

This year I've taken the decision to be more disciplined with my money. Whilst I can be frugal when I have a challenge e.g my trip to New york, I tend to just spend ALL I have. Thank God I don't have any debts apart from my student loan. I've cleared my overdraft, arrears in council tax etc.

This month i've taken it that step further by really making my banks work for me. I'm in love with online banking ( I'm so late) it makes the process of transferring money so much simplier. Plus I can keep a watchful eye on my statements. My main bank account was currently were my wages got paid into and were all my direct debits came out of. This weekend I transferred all my direct debits to come out of my secondary account. Each month I will transfer the bulk sum of my wages enough to cover my rent. monthly travel and utility bills and then my direct debits will come out of this account solely.

My main account will leave me with the remainder of my wages. This way i won't get any sudden surprises when the TV licence comes out. i know I'm not the only one that goes to the cash point to think i have a certain amount and lo and behold a direct debit that i've forgotten about has come out- arrggh.

I think this way of banking is going to work so much better for me it will force me to be even more disciplined and at least I can see whatv I've got left to play with.

I was pleasantly surprised as I knew nothing about the story line. The plot really tugged my heart strings and made me appreciate every thing I have in my life. Sandra Bullock did justice to her character (round of applause). I can now understand why she received an Oscar nomination.

Nicola Roberts has become one of the ladies to look out for. I never used to take much notice of her in Girls Aloud but she's beginning to step out of the shadows of the band. She'll never be Cheryl Cole or Sarah Harding, but she's really blossomed and is making a name for herself on the fashion scene. It just goes to show that once you become comfortable in your own skin and find key pieces that compliment and fit your body shape your on a winning streak. Nicola's key items seem to be her cropped leather jacket which she cleverly teams up nicely with day time wear and evening gowns, Chanel bags and her embrace of colours.

Another fab look here, she dazzles in a teal-coloured Issa London gown with bright red nails.

This outfit was a bit risque but she managed to get away with it. I like the velvet, gold and black detail it's very genie like.

Week 20 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This week I've continued to e-mail radio stations and TV companies with regards to doing some work experience. We are in March and I still haven't confirmed a placement, so it seems I need to up the ante.

I haven't put any money aside this month, it's there unspent just not int he bank as yet. The grave yard shifts I’ve been working the past few weekends are solely for New York. The moneys coming I just haven't handed in the invoices. Once I get paid I'll put it straight into my account and that'll be February's savings. Sod’s law that whilst I’m trying to be frugal with my money, things around my flat are breaking. My wardrobe is on its last legs and is leaning like the tower of Pisa that’ll set me back at least £150. My laptop is beginning to make some strange groaning noises which I’ve translated into ‘Karen please I’m dying here, I don’t know how much longer I can last, please just let me go’ lol lol.

All jokes aside this week has again been insightful as I'm beginning to get to grips with my finances and am currently reading a few books that are educating me with my money. Obviously I need to apply these principals as reading alone is not going to get me anywhere.

I previously mentioned that a colleague of mine read a whopping 85 books in one year. After hearing that, I felt all inspired and set myself the task of reading at least 25 books this year. That’s an average of 2 books a month depending on the size and how I invest my time. I’m a bit behind as I’m only on my second book of the year and it's the end of February already (side-eye).

I’ve just started to read ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ as I’ve heard rave reviews. The story focuses on two Afghan women and how their lives cross each other. I guess I should have read the debut ‘The Kite Runner’ first but oh well. I’ve become so serious about my reading task that I’ve started to switch my phone off to and from work, so that no one disturbs me.

Topshop Cropped Black and White Mohair Jumper ~~£38~~ £18

This is the only item of clothing I've brought this month ( I'm getting better). I'm becoming a little obsessed with crop tops/ jumpers at the moment. I really do love them and they'll be my staple item of clothing this summer. I refuse to buy full priced clothing from Topshop depending on what it is, hence why I had to bag this cool jumper.

I love this top as the black has subtle hint's of gold specks in it which you can't see in the picture. Plus all things nautical and stripes are still big this season. I teamed this up with a high waisted skirt, a vest top, a long chain, black tights and my brown brogues.

Best Dressed At The Baftas

Kate Winslett wore a lace black design dress by Stella McCartney .

I think Kate looks great, the dress fits her body perfectly. The split detail shows just enough leg and the lace panel detail is divine. This dress is very classy and elegant yet simple and effective.

Vera Farmiga wore a asymmetric dress with black sash by Marchesa.

I don't normally like flowy dresses like this but she is bang on trend with the nude/cream colour and the one shoulder strap design. I love the black sash detail which helps accentuate her waist and breaks up the white nicely. Her chignon bun and lack of jewellery helps us focus on the dress, which I guess is the whole point really.

I'm not too sure about the matching red shoes and bag. I think I would have gone for a smaller clutch style purse and teamed them with black shoes but that's me. However I love the pink colour and the off the shoulder detail.

All black errrthing lol. I really like this look! The black halter neck backless style dress, the big statement Topshop ring , the Louis Vuitton clutch bag and her hair look on all receive top marks. I love it when women have jet black hair, the bob with full on bangs just sets off the whole look.

Another star who went for the cream/nude look. The ruffle detailing is what synched this look for me along with the belt. I think an up style hair do would have finished this look off nicely. Roll on The Oscars!!

Week 19 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This week has been a week of clarity and oh how clarity can give you so much peace! (I’ll get back to that later). I still have to renew my passport and I planned to send it of this week but I had to ensure that all my bills and outgoings where dealt with first. Now what ever money comes in within the next 2 weeks are solely for New York. Plus it only takes 6 weeks for me to get my passport back so I will definitely send it off in March. I will also put away my lump sum of money towards my rent in a couple of weeks as money’s coming in dribs and drabs at the moment. I've become so much more disciplined with my expenditure, not that I was that bad before. I tend to think more before I buy instead of impulse buying. We all know how I love my shoes and clothes.

As I stated earlier this week has been a week of confirmation on so many levels (thank you Jesus). I’ve been kind of lost over the past few months wondering what my next step would be career wise etc, not any more yo! I now KNOW which direction I’m heading in and what steps need to be taken. All will be revealed in due time. I’ve chosen not to say too much as I want my actions to do the talking for 2010. I feel like its January 1st again that’s the level of faith, excitement and determination I have with this.

A few months ago I mentioned that I would be doing my first guest speaking session at Kingston University. A date has now been pencilled in for the 17th of March, I’m a little nervous but mostly excited. I‘ve always wanted to give back and I believe people can learn from my media experiences. I know once I start I won’t stop rambling on (that should fill the awkward silences). What has this got to do with my New York journey you ask?!?!? It’s all confidence building, if I can talk in front of a group of 100 people then I can go and meet Diddy at Bad Boy Records lol. We all know how far confidence will take you! I was a little concerned that my Drama and Vocal Training course would go to waste but it seems my investment is beginning to pay off.

I have to give props where props are due, and Naomi Campbell looks hot! For a woman who turns 40 this year she looks good! I don't tend to take much notice of Miss Campbell as her diva behaviour has landed her in some hot water. However she looks darn good whilst modelling and she has looked fierce in some of her latest shoots. Plus she worked the catwalk during her Fashion For Relief Haiti Campaign. She's inspired me to pick up my 1.5 litre bottle of water again as her skin looks flawless like most models do-sigh! Work it Naomi!

Brits Best Dressed

I didn't bother watching The Brit Awards last night and to be honest I don't think I missed much. I was very disappointed with the red carpet. I thought the stars would have really pulled out the stops. I guess I'll have to wait until the Baftas this Sunday. Here's a few looks that deserve a round of applause.

JLS in grey matching suits, the guys looked very dapper! A round of applause to their stylist.

Alicia Keys stole the night for me in this black metallic sequined dress. I LOVE LOVE LOVE her Louboutin shoes, they're BAD!!!!

Cat Deely looked fab in this mini dress, Jimmy Choo's Glenys heels and box clutch.

Leone Lewis opted for a metallic silver William Tempest dress teamed with pink lipstick and shoes. This isn't a favourite of mine but it was nice to see Leona switch it up. You go girl!

This song isn't too bad, but the video's left me baffled. I can't call this one....should Dru Hill just call it a day?!?!? The concept isn't that great and the whole dancing at the bottom of the stairs is reminiscent of the Sleeping in My Bed video. Which was shot about ten years ago and yet still looks better than this. Plus the choreography is at level one, I know, I know people get old and stiff and all that jazz but still! This video just lacks oomph. Maybe the guys didn't have much of a budget or maybe it's just the end of the road. I’m not even going to entertain Nokios current look.

I didn't do half the things I'd planned this week in relation to my trip. I’m yet to put some money aside for rent; I've got 2 weeks until the month is out. Where has February gone? Time is beginning to fly now and I still have a few loose ends to tie up. Plus I need to renew my passport; I better do that this month.

I began to get pieces of audio together for a little demo CD I’m going to take with me. It will contain packages I've made, snippets of my entertainment slot and adverts I've voiced. I need to showcase my skills and I haven't ruled out the opportunity of making a quick dollar whilst out there.

It seems at least 5 of my friends are going to be in the States during the month of August. This is such a contrast compared to my trip nearly 2 years ago when I was all on my lonesome. I am faithful that everything will work out okay, regardless of how the situation looks at present.

I wasn't sure which Brandy video too pick so opted for this one. I was so young and oblivious that I didn't realise this video was shot in the heart of Times Square (New York baby). These were the days when puffa coats were the one; I loved her white version. I had a FLAT yellow puffa jacket at school. This kind of defeated the point really as puffa jackets were meant to be puffy oh well. Then I tried to revive my self with a black patent version during college. It was way too big and literally swamped my body, plus it was so uncomplimentary. The things we do for fashion eh?

Brandy rocked braids so well and did so many different styles with them. She was like the Rihanna of extensions and made we want to get braids again. These were the days when videos were innocent and less sexually overt.

I've finally got my Dr Martens-yeah!!!! I've been raving on about these since last year, but was in two minds, as I think you have to have a certain look/style to carry them off. My friend kindly brought them for me and although their not originals, I don't care. I LOVE them especially as there patent!

They'll get their debut tomorrow and I'm going to team them with leggings and a fitted top or denim shirt. Plus there the perfect footwear for the weather outside at the moment. I never thought in a million years that I'd be wearing Dr Martens again, but my style has changed so much over the past year. Especially since I chopped my hair off. I find I dress that little bit more edgier now.

Week 17 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This month is going to be quite challenging as my outgoings are high. The utility bills are due and I dread to see the price of my gas bill this quarter- eeek. I'm hoping to save £400 this month, which will go towards the rent on the apartment. Anything more is a bonus hmm we’ll see.

This week I focused on which media companies I could work for. Where as before I applied to places that seemed appealing and had the biggest name. There’s nothing wrong with that but I’ve got to be more open minded. There are a lot of Radio/News/TV stations that I didn't know about. Aside from the big companies like MTV, CNN, HOT 9 and ABC, there are some smaller independent companies that I over looked. I've learnt from experience that it's not always about working for the big well known companies. It can sometimes feel like crab in a bucket syndrome. The smaller independent places sometimes give you bigger opportunities and really throw you into the deep end. It can end up being a blessing in disguise!!!

I'm still waiting to hear back after putting out the calls and e-mails out this week. I'm going to continue harassing people until I get my answer YES YOU CAN come and work with us lol.

I think this track came out in 1995 when Da Brat was in her element. Where is she now?!?! I guess she's still locked up in jail.....tis a sad shame! I know I wasn't the only girl that rocked her hair like Da Brats, it was her signature look. I had to beg my friend to help assist with the back as there's no way I could do it alone. I thought I looked hot with my hair freshly relaxed, intricately parted into twist and secured with colourful bobbles. This kind of style didn't last long for me, hence why I only rocked it a few times.

I knew this song word for word...."It goes 1 plus 2 plus 3 plus 4, from the bottom to the top, top to bottom I go. So now you know who I am and what I is....." I like the laid back feel of this song and loved the video even more. The cameo appearances were endless from Mary J Blige, T-Boz, MC Lyte, Bill Bellamy, Diddy, The Late B.I.G and Jermaine Dupri.

I want these shoes...can I afford them not really, but some one may surprise me (nudge, nudge). I adore all things colourful and these shoes make such a statement, it enables you to keep the rest of your outfit simple. I like the zip detail and the contrasting colour straps plus the heel is not too high. These beauty's will look so hot come spring/summer, teamed with some skinny jeans the ripped type and a simple vest top. Or they'd look great with a pair of white skinnies and a crop top. You could even team them with a pair of tailored shorts and a nice fitted top. Watch this space......

Week 16 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This week has been really quiet due to the fact that I haven't used my time wisely- sigh! It really urks me when I waste time, as you can never get it back. Yet I continue to do it again and again, maybe I'm being too hard on myself and setting my expectations too high? Or it could be that I'm comparing myself to what others are doing? There's nothing wrong with a little healthy competition right?!?!?

It's the end of January and I now only have 6 months until I jet off too the states. That reminds I need to get my passport renewed as it expires this month. Time is beginning too fly as I knew it would, kinda scary really. I'm not quite excited, more apprehensive at this stage.

The most I did this week is pay off the remainder of my deposit for the apartment I'm staying at. The main focus over the next few months is to lock down at least 2 work placements. This week I have to sit down and think about what companies I'm going to approach, and what services I can offer. As I would like to have at least one placement confirmed before I get out there.

What to watch on TV?

It's the season for hibernating as the weather outside is dire plus its way too cold! So what else is left to do but enjoy the comfort of your nice warm house and watch TV. I've recently jumped onto the Glee bandwagon as everyone on the face of the planet is talking about it. I watched it for the first time on Sunday and I'm now officially hooked. Season 6 of Desperate Housewives returns tonight- good times! And I've recently got back into Heroes’ again. Hoorah for American programming!

Week 15 Of My Journey Geting To New York.

This week I signed all tenancy agreements and now I just have to pay off the rent whoody whooo! Now that accommodation is finalised, I really need to get a job placement secured. I think this will be the most challenging aspect of this trip.

I managed to put some more money into my NYC savings this week which is always good thing. I’m hoping that I can save at least £400 a month it’s a bit of feat as my earnings have gone down but hopefully I’ll find another source of income.

Thankfully the weekend shifts I’ve been doing since September, that I was quick to turn my nose up too have been extended till March. These shifts have really been a God send and enabled me to pay off my debts and put some money aside.

I’ve been in a thoughtful mood this week with regards to what I want to achieve from my 5 weeks in New York. At first it was to get to a job offer and then I’d move to America and live happily ever after (Is there such thing?). Upon reflection what I’d really like from this trip is for my work ethic to be like none other. I’m tired of just doing enough to coast by, I know my potential and I need to start showing it! I want more confidence to grow even more! I want to come out of my comfort zone, scary but in the end life changing. I want to leave a lasting impression with every single company I work for. This is something I didn’t do in 2008. Most importantly I don’t want to come back with regrets, wishing I’d done this and that. I need to give New York a good run and really got for it!

I LOVE this dress, the length, the colour and the cut 10/10. I wish I could wear a back less dress, but it's just not an option. They look so sexy without baring too much flesh- very classy!!!

I like the mustard colour of the dress and the statement red lipstick. One shouldered dresses are still big this season so Diane is bang on trend with this creation. Simple jewellery and mini clutch completes this look.

Drew Barrymore strikes again! I love a colour and this royal blue dress really stands out against the red carpet. Drew Barrymore is blossoming nicely! However I don't like the dramatic, asymmetrically hemmed tier. Hair and make-up again looks flawless.

Jennifer opted for a short dress and manages to carry it off. I still want a long sleeved mini dress. I like the raised structured shoulders and folded over pleat design on the front. I don't normally like white and black but this style is a breath of fresh air amongst the typical ball gown styles.

They're so versatile and can be teamed with anything from leggings with a nice floaty top, skirts and crop tops, dresses, skinny jeans you name it. Roll on Spring/Summer...

This is one trend I don't think I won't be jumping on in a hurry. Clogs are apparently making a comeback and I don't know why? I guess you could make them look hot with a nice mini dress or something. No doubt the likes of Fearne Cotton will be strutting around with these and they'll become a phenomenon.

The kitten is back for 2010! I'm still a sky scraper platform girl but they're not exactly practical for everyday wear. Some may say the above image is too high to be a kitten heel but I like the shoes. I guess we are finally returning back to practicality.....but I still don’t like them. Some women would argue that kitten heels are no more comfortable than a 2-3 inch heel and don't lok very sexy. At least your legs look more flattering with a good few inches on your shoe. Plus I always associate kitten heels with an older woman, sorrry but I do.

I'm feeling all inspired after speaking to a colleague at work who read a whopping 85 books last year. Who does that?!?!? I must confess one of my goals for 2010 is to read a lot more. I don’t know if I get distracted easily or that the books I’m reading aren’t gripping enough, but I don’t seem to read much anymore.

I’m currently reading ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ and have been for the last few months (not a god sign). Whilst it’s getting juicy I’m struggling to finish it and the book isn’t even that thick. I’m now halfway through and am determined to have completed it by the end of the month. My book shelves are beginning to resemble a library at home and I need complete the books I have before buying anymore. Next book I’m going to try and get into for the second time is Homicide by David Simon.

Drew Barrymore in a nude Atelier Versace gown with shoulder and hip embellishments. Drew looks lovely here and the nude colour makes a return every season it seems.

Toni Collete in a gold Elie Saab dress.I like the neckline on this dress and simple jewellry. Ladies take note you don't always have to wear a necklace!

Monique looked stunning in a strapless Reem Acra dress. Loving her make up and simple hair style and earrings. I predict Precious will pick up some statues at the Oscars.

Courtney Cox wore a long black number courtesy of Victoria Beckham. I don't typically like black but it seems to work, a nice classy look for Mrs Cox.

Gabby Sidibe brought a splash of colour to the red carpet in this silk chiffon gown by Kevan Hall. I don't love the style but the emerald colour really suits her skin tone.

Week 14 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This week has been quite productive and it seems that my accommodation is finally sorted (sigh of relief). I can’t take the credit for finding it but I’m happy to say that I’ll be staying in a nice apartment in East Village. I don’t know much about the area but it’s quite central as it's close to Manhattan which is always a bonus and it looks nice and clean.

It will make a refreshing change compared to my visit 2 years ago where I was confined to one room and had to share amenities, etc. It was a great experience and enabled me to meet some great people, but I look forward to cooking my own food, having access to a TV and a little privacy. All together accommodation which includes a deposit, agency fee and cleaner (yes a cleaner) is around the £1,200 mark which isn’t too bad! Of course cheaper would have been more ideal but I’d rather have comfort over anything else.

I’ll pay my deposit of £350 by the end of this month and aim to have all my accommodation paid off by the end of March. The duration of my stay has gone down from 3 months to 5 weeks as funds will not permit. I think I was being a bit ambitious with regards saving ample amount of money for the time scale needed.

All in all I’ll need to save at least £2,500 within the next 6 months…..let the game’s begin. Once my accommodation is paid for, I can concentrate on the flight and spending/survival money. Hence the reason my job searching has gone into full scale and everybone within ears reach knows I’m looking for work. I’ve continued to join acting agencies and got my full length body shot taken this week.

It’s funny how when you really want something and time is ticking, you begin to get yourself into gear. There's still so much to be done but at least I’m beginning to see the progress!

I'm still accumulating presents and gifts off friends of mine. The lovely Krystle Eyes brought me not one but two pairs of shoes for Christmas and I received them this week. I love the Snake Tassle Shoe Boots below (Matalan). I own them in purple but I couldn't find an image -sorry! I've had my eye on them for a while and can't wait to rock them. They're a refreshing change to my typical clumpy platform shoes and a touch more classy!

The second pair is the Chain Detail Platform Shoe Boot (Matalan) and they're H-I-G-H!!!! These are solely for getting in and out of the car with, regardless of how comfy they are! I practiced doing the two step in my flat but I founding bending the knees a little difficult as they are so rigid around the leg.

My other friend kindly gave me her Hooded Fairisle Scarf (New Look) as she doesn't wear it. It's so funny as this week I said I wanted a hooded scarf and voila I got one - good times!

New Nose Ayone???

I know this topic isn't new, but I'm surprised at the amount of celebrities that have had some form of cosmetic surgery. Although some people’s surgery is so subtle you can't quite put your finger on what's changed. I remember when Amerie came back with her video for 1 thing and I thought oooh she looks pretty, the same with Kelly Rowland in the Loose My Breath video (don't get me wrong both of these artists were pretty before). I put it down to blossoming with age like fine wine.

Little did I know that they’d resorted too rhinoplasty (nose jobs). The list is endless for the amount of artists that have had the odd nip and tuck. I'm not going to fill up my page with before and afters pictures but we've all heard names on the rumour mill including Beyonce, Ashley Simpson, Avril Lavinge, Megan Fox Tyra Banks, Aaliyah, Lil Kim, Halle Berry, Toni Braxton, Kim Kardashian and Pepa. At least Michael Jackson admitted to "some" of his surgery. Other celebs will have you think they were born that way. I don't know I guess it takes away some of the realness.

I'm not one to judge, but I think all these women looked pretty enough before undergoing surgery. Each to their own it's your body and if you've got the money then that’s your prerogative. However there are many impressionable young fans who look up to these women and there beauty and probably feel they have to have there nose altered to be deemed beautiful. Surely if asked you should admit to having some work done. I'm not saying shout it from the roof tops but be honest about it. That’s like claiming all the hair on your head is your's whilst you add extensions. I want to feel I can relate to people, flaws and all and not the perfect image that's splattered within society.

Why do so many women choose to have their noses done. Is it because it's a focal part of your face?!?!? Is it because women aspire to have the famous straight nose (what ever that is)?!?!? Or maybe it's because society has made us less attractive unless we lokk a certain way?

Week 13 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

This week has been very busy for me, I've worked non stop since Monday the 28th of December. It feels like I haven’t even had time to bring in the New Year properly. I’m yet to clear out my flat and have a good clean up. Hence why it's been quiet on the New York front. The most I’ve done this week is join some acting agencies as I’m on a quest to get some extra roles in a bid to accrue more money. Apart from that I haven’t chased any more American media companies. I’m going to make more of an effort this coming week.

On another note Fashion Bytes brought me this lovely note book for Christmas (below) which has motivated me even more. It has a metro system map, street planner, removable sheets, and tracing paper enabling me to map my journeys. Most importantly 70+ blank pages for me to jot down memorable places, my journey, important info etc. I got so excited flicking through and reminisced subway routes I used to take. Where I used to live, my closest station (34 Penn Station) etc. I'm really looking forward to filling up this note book

Life without my...

lovely black berry. I'm just coming to terms with having to resort too my faithful old Nokia (the same Nokia I was dissing a few months back). I'm not a snob but once you experience an I-phone or Blackberry trust me you won't want to go back.

I dropped my phone over the Christmas period and cracked the screen sigh! That was it for my temperamental ever so delicate mini computer/phone. It's amazing how dependant you become on technology. I think the feature I miss the most is the blackberry messenger. Texting is so long and you can't really have a big time conversation where as with instant messenger the convo just flows. I miss instant access to my e-mails, uber twitter. I even miss the key pad for pete's sake and didn't realise how uncomfortable it was to text on a normal phone.

I guess this has become a bit of a humbling experience for me and at least I get a mini break from always being contactable. I now use my time just a smidgen more wisely and read a book on my journey to and from work instead of tweeting or faffing about on my crack berry. I may as well enjoy the break while I can as I’m counting down the days until I get it back.

Double Breasted Jacket Cardigan ~~£60~~ £15 (Warehouse)

I adore this cardigan/jacket and brought it from my favourite shop at the moment.....Warehouse Outlet. I class this as a cardigan as it's a knitted material. I'll team it up with a fitted dress, my thick cotton tights, brogues or my converse. My new thing is dresses, skirts and my converse shoes/boots. I have Fearne Cotton to thank for that.

Dirty Indigo Western Jacket ~~£50~~ £10 (Warehouse)

This is to put down for the summer and will probably get its debut in New York. I've wanted a fitted denim jacket since last year and viola I found this. It fits so nice and snugly around the waist. I'll wear this with a nice floral dress or a pair of jeans, harem pants and a crop top (hence why my abs needs to be perfected by May). This jacket also comes in grey at the same price. It took every ounce of will power for me not to buy they grey one too.

I was uuming and arghing about buying one of these when I trudged down to Roman Road Market a few months ago with Fashion Bytes. Wishing I had brought one I found this beauty amongst the Topshop rails in Brixton. Denim shirts will still be around this spring summer. I wore it yesterday with my leggings, red Converse high tops and a black v-neck. I'll also be teaming it over dresses and skirts as it'll probably double up as a jacket in the summer.

I own this cardigan in black and I have worn it religiously. I really has got my money's worth out of this cardigan and is still going strong so without bobbles and all. I decided to give the black one a break and brought it in navy for a bit of variation.

Week 12 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

It’s the first weekend in January and I’m all raring to go. Last week I put some more money into my New York fund (a substantial amount for once). Now is the time to get very serious and more disciplined with my money. I now have about 30 weeks until I depart and I know time is going to fly by. I need to save at least £350 a month.…hmm. Knowing that I only have a mater of weeks will give me the push that I need to find a new job.

By the end of this month I hope to have found my accommodation and put a deposit down. I also need to start hollering at media companies on a regular basis. Procrastination CANNOT be an option over the next few months. As this trip has to be better than last time although I had the time of my life. This year I’m going with a plan and by the grace of God I’ll succeed.

I can’t believe I’m going to back in New York within a matter of months it won’t sink in until I’m on the plane and we touch down at JFK airport.

Who remembers this jam way back in 1999? I can't recall if I brought it as a single or just recorded it off the radio? Yeah cheap but that's what we did back in the day. I wouldn’t consider myself a NKOTB fan but after watching this video I think Jordan Knight and Donnie Wahlberg were my favourites. I can so see Justin Timberlake performing this song. He can touch those falsetto notes like Jordan, likes to dance and is eye candy.

I didn't know this video was nominated for best dance video at the 1999 MTV Awards. Unfortunately our Jordan lost out to Ricky Martin that year. Enjoy the video and Happy January 1st!

My latest M.A.C buy...

I am overly happy with my latest M.A.C purchase at the moment. I’ve wanted a new blusher since the 80’s as I’ve been using my raizin powder blush since 2002. Really 2002, thank Jesus I haven’t had a break out. If I had my way my entire make up collection would be courtesy of M.A.C, but I simply can’t afford it. So I asked my friend for a M.A.C voucher as a Christmas present and trotted down to my local branch on High St Kensington. After much deliberating I opted for a crème blush (wouldn't recommend for oily skin) instead of the powder form and brought the shade laid back. I’ve been wearing it every day ever since and have found that I only need to apply a little on my brush and the coverage is great, plus it lasts all day. Yes I have rosy cheeks like rusty the clown all day long.

I’ve decided I’m going to make more of an effort with my appearance if it means applying the odd bit of mascara, lippie or just making sure my hairs did for 2010.

Week 11 Of My Journey Getting To New York.

I didn’t do any research last week, I' was too busy rushing around trying to get the last few bits and bobs for Christmas. The relaxing period has come to an end, as of next Sunday I’ll only have 6 months to go. Just reading over that last sentence confirms that it's now time to get serious. 2010 is going to fly by and I'm hoping to get my accommodation locked down by the end of January. From here on out it’s all systems go and I need to step it up a gear. I seem to work better under pressure, to know that time is ticking away will give me the incentive that I need. I also need to get serious with my savings. I need to think of the long term goal and STOP impulse buying. Every spare penny needs to go to my New York funds.

Everybody has been so supportive thus far. I’ve received constant words of encouragement and I can’t wait to share my journey with you all whilst I’m out there.

***UPDATE I got my head shots done thanks too Waltzing Matilda so I can now pursue this acting/extra work in 2010.

Goodbye To The.....

ballet pump. I know the likes of Kate Moss and Sienna Miller rock these shoes on a regular and make them look good but they’re just not for me. Believe me I've tried to love them and there are some nice styles out there, but out of all the flat typed shoes available I’d rather wear a pair of brogues or loafers.

No matter how hard I try I can’t dress them up and I don't think they're attractive. In addition they don’t really support your feet depending where you buy them from. So on Sunday I threw out 12 pairs of shoes 4 of which consisted of ballet pumps. I don't miss them at all and to be honest I don't think my feet will ever see a ballet pump again.

I have started to feel the fear and do it anyway (a book by Susan Jeffers that I have yet to read). This week I have been more proactive and started to holler at media companies here in London about job opportunities. I'll give more details when I'm successful otherwise it may seem that I'm talking a lot of hot air. My research cap has come back out and I've started to e-mail and call round to managers, producers, directors about job opportunities and possible meetings. The key to this is for me to follow up what I’ve started and just be confident within myself. It reminds me back to the time when I had to meet the editor of news and convince him I was capable of doing some work within television. He just wanted to know I could do the job and once he saw that I was confident and capable he gave me a chance. The penny is finally beginning to drop…confidence will take you so far! However knowing it and applying it are two different things.

I also e-mailed some companies in New York. A little pre mature maybe but I don't see any harm with letting folk know that I'll be coming out there to work next year. I have been really fortunate to have some wise friends around me who have given me good advice with regards to this trip.

I'm started to get excited now as New York will be here before I know it. I really want to start travelling a lot more in 2010 and the list of destinations are endless. I have no doubt in my mind that I will get to New York.....I miss the big apple soooooo much!

Diddy's London UK Assistant

The things we do eh?!?! Here I am auditioning to be Puff Daddy's Personal Assistant. This video was filmed two years ago and is quite low budget. I'm not ashamed to share my work with ya'll as it helps me improve for next time. Look at my hair sniff, the extensions did wonders back then I was so attached to them. I forget how strong my Midlands accent is you can hear it from the get go. I literally ramble on for over two minutes......oh how I've changed.

If I could shoot this video again I would be so much more creative. I'd film scenes over different locations in and around London. I'd make it fun and really show my personality more. I’d incorporate a costume change and some music in the back ground. I’d include a scene which involved me re-enacting the role of a Personal Assistant. Could I really have worked for Diddy I’m not so sure but I was willing to give it a shot. Needless to say I did not get a call back lol!

If Rumours Are True.....

Mr Simon Cowell will be recruiting a new judge for next years X Factor. Danni Cowell will get the boot/leave for the umpteenth time and could be replaced by either Mel B or Kelly Rowland. I personally want Kelly to receive the role as a judge but I won’t hold my breath. How refreshing would it be to have a black woman on the panel? Kelly has had years of success with Destiny’s Child and would be able to offer constructive advice. She’ll be able to sympathise/relate to the contestants after encountering similar situations before Destiny’s Child got their big break. She’s pretty and would fit in nicely amongst Cheryl Cole, Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh. Although I think some people might say she’s too nice and not feisty enough but give her time and she would be. Look how Danni really came into her own this year!

More than anything she needs this. This opportunity would propel her back into the lime light as apart from appearing in 50 Cent’s video, a few red carpet appearances and singing alongside David Guetto our Kelly hasn’t done much. Beyonce is still taking over the world and Michelle is currently starring in Chicago. I’d like to think her PR team are pushing for this hard. Look what Simons support has done for Cheryl Cole. Yes we all know Kelly was one third of the world’s biggest girl groups but unfortunately I don’t associate her with Destiny’s Child anymore. I just see her as that pretty girl with a nice voice.

This week I put some more money aside whoo hoo. Don't get it twisted I'm not dealing with hundreds here, but as Tesco's advertising campaign states 'every little counts'. To see my funds slowly....slowly rising gives me more of an incentive to save, save, save. Although I do love to shop, shop, shop (side-eye).

I’m still in the process of job hunting but wasn’t as pro-active this week as I intended. My sistrin reminded me how I used to avidly talk about getting into extra work. So this week I pulled my finger out and researched some extra agencies. The one thing that stopped me pursuing extra work was getting my pictures done. I thought I could get a friend to take them on a digital camera……NO! Thankfully my home girl who is a proffessional photographer has come to my aid once again and we’re going to take my pictures this week. Extra work consists of a lot of sitting around but its quick well paid money and you never know I may become the new Chelsea in Eastenders (joke). Plus it adds another string to my bow

I think as well as saving money, finding a new job and hollering at companies in New York, I still need to build up my experience here. There are still so many different things I could be doing and I'm looking forward to what 2010 will bring.

So curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to see what Chris Brown's latest offering had to say (don't lynch me).....and it's actually very good. I wouldn't consider myself a Chris Brown stan but this album is consistent track after track after track. It's a nice mix of up tempo tracks and ballads and the production is on point. I was surprised at how I listened to the whole album without skipping a track, that's always a good sign. Chris knows what formula works for him and he's stuck to it and I’m sure his loyal fans will be happy with their purchase. I'm not sure how well this album will sell....time will tell.

Stand out tracks are Transform Ya, Crawl, So Cold, What I Do (should be the next single), Famous Girl, Wait and Fallin Down.

Death At A Funeral Remake.

I love anything that’s got silly related to it and this looks quite funny from the trailer. I do love slapstick humour….I’m a sucker for it. This film is a re-make of the British Comedy Death At A Funeral. I’ve read the plot and I will definitely be going to watch this. It’s been injected with an all star black cast including Danny Glover, Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence to name a few. It’s not due for release until June 2010 mind you so you‘ll have to make do with the trailer until then.

This week I have focused my attention to job hunting. I have hollered at a few media companies in relation to doing some online news, researching, TV bits and bobs. Unfortunately they don’t have anything going at the moment or they have shut up shop. I even hollered at some folks in my home town of Birmingham but to no avail. I’m trying to find ways of making some serious money. Whilst I don’t mind working in retail, I know there are other jobs I could do that would bring in a larger amount of money in the same amount of time. I’m a bit stuck at the moment; I’m going to have to pray for some guidance and inspiration. There are always ways to make money you just have to be creative and think outside the box. I don’t mind working hard but I just need to do something new hmmm.

I’ve been doing some thinking and have decided to cut down my trip from 3 months to 6 weeks. Why?!?!? Well to find a job that pays me in NYC is going to be a challenge but not impossible, this way I can afford to do some work for free. I can easily make contacts and sell myself in 6 weeks I don’t need 3 months to do that. 6 weeks will give me more of an incentive to live each day to the maximum and not procrastinate. I know how I function the longer I have to do things the more I dilly dally. I think I only wanted to stay for 3 months so that I could be there as long as possible as I dread the coming home feeling (I remember how I felt last year). Plus I really don’t want to rent out my flat for 3 months it’s too much hassle (interview process/vetting some one) and most tenants rent for a minimum of 6 months. This way I can afford to pay 6 weeks rent without breaking the bank and I won’t mind my flat being empty for that space of time. This also means I have less money to save and overall it should work out better. I did 5 weeks last year and I didn’t take advantage of the time so anything over 6 weeks will be fine but nothing less.

Bandeau Dress £5 (Warehouse)

Here's another bargain dress courtesy of Warehouse. I'm not sure of the original selling price but who cares it costs £5. I've always wanted a bandeau style dress and a black one would have gone down a storm, but I love a colour and was surprised at how nice the pink looked against my skin tone. I teamed this dress with my all time favourite shoobs courtesy of Primark £17 (so comfortable) and my gold chain again Primark £2. See ladies you don't have to spend vasts amount of money to look nice. I didn’t post a picture of me in my blue animal print dress. So I thought I’d give you a treat lol as pictures of me on my blog are a rarity.

Push

Push the novel by Sapphire has been made into a film and re-titled ‘Precious’. It’s the movie on everyone’s lips and will probably receive a few Oscars next year. I couldn't wait until February (UK opening) so opted to read the book instead. This novel is not for the faint hearted and a little disturbing in parts. Some scenes left my mouth hanging wide open and I had to shake my head on too many occasions. I definitely need to go and watch this film when it comes out.

The book tells the tale of a young girl who has two children by the age of sixteen and suffers sexual, mental and physical abuse. It’s such a harrowing tale and I really felt for Precious (the main character) you can’t help but feel empathy. It seems the world is against her and this is the time when she needed her family and friends the most but unfortunately her family wasn’t there. My faith would really begin to waver if God forbid I was to encounter a similar situation.

It just goes to show, you don't know what people are going through! Especially young kids out there who feel they don't have a voice. Seriously all we can do is pray as the world we live in is not good! Unfortunately we don't get to choose the cards that life deals. We just have to preserve and keep the faith. This story has made me think twice before I start moaning and complaining when things don't go my way.

British Men vs American Men

There's a major difference between American and British men. Anyone who has spent some time in the States will agree with me on this. US men come across so much more confident, fearless, charming and overall groomed. Whilst some if not most UK men are slightly insecure, more reserved and have a fear of rejection. I'm not trying to generalise I'm just going on my own experiences. I've found that men here may want to get to know you a bit better but fear holds them back! Come on brothers life is too short for that ish and you never know the outcome may just be yes!

I read an interesting piece by June Sarpong a few months ago and I agreed on everything she said. Everytime I go to the States I feel so loved, men holler at me to say have a good day, they be calling me chocolate lol, open doors for me, the attention is over whelming but nice (I'm just keeping it real).This did wonders for my confidence and my self esteeem went through the roof. I'm not saying that I need constant attention to feel happy, but everyone wants to feel wanted every now and then. Here in the UK I could go a whole month without a good day from a brother. British men don't generally holler as I think they worry too much about rejection, not all of them but I know a lot of guys who share this way of thinking. It's got me wondering if my future husband will be from this country? I want to have choice's and not settle for the first man that gives me a little bit of attention. Come on ladies you know you've all been guilty of this too.

I don't understand what it is?!?! I think people underestimate the power of confidence. It seems Americans have had this way of thinking instilled since birth. I've known men that have been interested in me but have been too scared to say anything....sigh!!!! I know it can't be easy, as belive me I'm not in a rush to tell a brother I think he's nice. I don't care what year it is, I still believe in the old fashioned values that men should step to a lady first (although I know us women can be hard work). It's so annoying and it's just dry so, so dry! I joke with my friends that you could live in the states for a year and you'd probably be engaged by the end of the 12 months. American men seem to know what they want and just go for it, rejection or not and I'm sure I'm not the only woman who likes this quality in a man. Yes there are British men who share this quality but unfortuantely there is a higher percentage Stateside than here. A penny for your thoughts!

Week 7 Of My Journey getting To New York.

This week I have returned to being disciplined with my money and put some funds aside for NYC. I currently have two accounts one for getting me to New York and the other is for when I get back as who knows what my financial situation will be on my return. I confess I don’t have half as much money as I would have liked at this stage so it’s imperative that I get another job. It will probably be on a weekend and some form of retail but I don't mind sacrificing my Saturday’s for a few months. The graveyard shifts that I currently do on the weekend are coming to an end and whilst I complained about them at first they have been a blessing financially.

On another note I’ve offered my services to go and talk to the youth dem at Universities. I've been wanting to give back to others for a while now and if my experiences can help others then so be it as we all know this media game is not easy! I bumped into a lecturer at work last weekend and we got talking and I explained my desire to do more public speaking. As it’s been pushed aside since my Vocal and Drama training course. So I’m set to do a talk at Kingston University before the year is out and another talk in January. I truly believe this will come in handy for when I go the States, not only does it build up my experience it will give me more confidence. If I can talk in front of a class of adults/teenagers I don't know then surely I can talk to the boss at Hot 97 (you'd like to think so huh).

Bargain Of The Week

Animal Print Dress ~~£40~~ £10 (Warehouse)

I love a bargain, but then again don't we all?!?!? I purchased this dress yesterday as I knew it would come in handy for a family gathering/party tonight. I wanted something nice but not too dressy and this fits the bill perfectly. I'm a fan of animal print and would have loved this dress in red but cobalt blue suits me fine. It's not too short and fits just right. It has a shoe string tie at the neck and exposes the back but in a nice subtle way.

I'm going to team this up with bright orange nail varnish to inject a bit more colour. My black suede ankle peep toe cuff boots, military jacket and the faithful clutch bag. I'm going to take some snaps tonight and may add the finished look sometime next week.

A Scrub Is A Guy.......

I’m not one to chat my friends business but I got her permission to share this story. Basically said friend met a young man a few weeks ago and has been conversing with him ever since. Homie is in his early 30s and is here from the States for a couple of years. I’m not going to go into the how, where and when they met. I’m just going to get down to the nitty gritty.

They went out for something to eat over the weekend and I just have to shake my head at what happened. They went for a drink and said friend said when she ordered homie just stood there didn’t flinch and left her to pay. Hmmmm she said she didn’t think too much of it as he’d probably buy the next round. Although I thought considering my man initiated the meeting he would at least have offered to pay for the drinks. This story unfortunately gets worse.

Said friend felt hungry and suggest they go for something to eat. So they find somewhere inexpensive and they BOTH eat and have yet another drink. The bill comes and homie says “how much is it?” Said friend responds “I don’t know as your paying!” Homie laughs it off and when the bill comes pushes the receipt to said friend. Said friend pushes the bill back and said “I thought you were paying”. (I know my friend and it’s not that she wouldn’t have paid for herself she just wanted to see what this guy was about). Homie responds with the finisher off all conversations, the scene killer, wait for it…….. “I haven’t got any money!!!!!!!” What?!?!?!? Said friend was in a state of shock and thought he was joking unfortunately he wasn’t and said friend ended up paying for the bill and deleting homies number lol.

I really can’t believe that in 2009 a man of any age would leave his house without any money. That is so lame and doesn’t leave a good impression on a first meeting. Did he not feel no shame in professing he ain’t got no dough. I know people are in different places financially but surely you’d explain that before you meet with someone. I would feel so stink to eat a meal and when the bill comes tell a man that I haven’t got any money. Who does that though really?!? I guess the kind of man who doesn’t really respect himself or others. I was so shocked when said friend told me as I have never heard anything like it before. Most men would have pretended they weren’t hungry or borrowed £20 from a friend, gave your last £5 damn anything. Maybe he was looking for a free meal, maybe he did have money and didn’t want to pay or maybe he’s just a scrub.

Week 6 Of My Journey Geting To New York

Yet another quiet week on the NYC front, but I don’t feel bad. It’s not every week that I’ll have something to report. That’s just how the game goes sometimes. I have however had a lot of food for thought and been giving the joy of crossing paths with quite a few people (praise God). I spoke to a friend from church that gave me some advice indirectly and opted to keep an ear out whilst in New York. He also informed that he knows a few people in the media circle God do your thang lol.

Each week my concerns change like the weather and whilst sometimes I feel lazy all it takes is a look at my vision board and my spirits are lifted and the excitement returns. Last week I met a guy from the Bronx and I had to commend him on his confidence and friendliness (that’s most New Yorkers for you) and his response really stuck with me. He said I have to be as New York is full of hungry and confident people. Now I know this is the case but is just re-affirmed that working out there is not a joke. It made me question whether I am ready for this, will I work to my full potential and will I act confidently when needed? I can’t afford to be shy, it’s not an option. I have to be bold!!!! But my how it can be so intimidating to just walk into certain companies and be like hey here I am. I know I can do it but the idea does scare me a lot! This is why I’ll continue to pray that God gets me to a certain level by next August.

This journey is fun and I can’t wait to say yes I finally made it!

Friday Throwback!

Mary, Mary, Mary my how you’ve matured as we all do! I’ll continue to fly the flag for the 90’s until I run out of videos to post and that won’t be anytime soon. I was out recently and I heard ‘What’s the 411’ album playing (that reminds me I’m going to listen to it when I get home). So I decided to post a video for it. I think Mary looks great in this video, then again when doesn’t she?!?!?!

This was probably one of the first videos that inspired me to wear a cap backwards although my hair didn’t give me the desired effect. My naivety led me to believe that all these singers had full long luscious hair…. no!!! I so wanted a long baseball shirt, the knee pads, boots the full works. I had to make do with a lumber checked jacket and canvas boots. At least we didn’t have the pressures to have sexy provocative clothing as it was all about the baggy jeans, chunky boots and loose fitted tops.
