Hip-Hop Beyond Beats & Rhymes

Very interesting documentary that explores the real issues behind hip-hop music including manhood, sexism, masculinity, violence and homophobia. There are several different perspectives from fans, rappers and music moguls. This really got me thinking about the many different genres of music I let seep into my mind and the hidden messages incorporated in the lyrics and videos. As well as the big corporate men who fatten their pockets by exploiting the hip-hop culture and the artists involved within it.

This isn't new but thanks Williams for bringing this to my attention.

The latest addition to my wardrobe...

yes, yet another pair of shoes! I've had my eye on these beauties since March now, they are the YSL tribute t-bar shoes. Now obviously mine are not YSL as I don't have hundreds of pounds to waste. They are courtesy of Matalan and at least an inch shorter. These shoes are HOT and they will be getting their debut tomorrow-good times!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drama week 4

I'm really getting into my Drama course now and I can feel the confidence growing as the weeks go by. Today we looked at monolgues and how to get into character, how to feel the emotions and how to portray it back to your audience. We looked at body language, the way in which we speak and how it is perceived and we also did several role plays which I really love doing!!!

I also got to learn a bit more about my tutor today; she is so cool. She is the kind of person I could chill with on a daily basis. Today she advised me that when I do my Entertainment slot or other public speaking that I should not be so self- conscious. I should use the radio as my platform/stage be my usual funny/mad/quirky self and don't worry about what people at home think, to just really go for it. This course is teaching more and more about my self every week...I LOVE IT!!!!!! Roll on week 5!!!!!!!

Check out Kanye’s new video below. Is it me or are his videos becoming less and less creative. Then again most artists don’t really step out of the boat much when it comes to videos, it’s the same old repetitive ish. Maybe the recession is affecting everyone after all -who knows! Anywhoo this looks more like Rhianna’s video and that Kanye is making the cameo appearance… isn’t that the wrong way round?!?!?!?

I.AM

I literally flew down to Birmingham last night to go and watch Beyonce’s I Am concert at the N.I.A, and I have to say it was worth the journey. Zarif, R ‘N’ B songstress Shontelle and the DJ were given the opportunity to warm up the audience in preparation for Miss B. Who graced us with her presence at 8:50pm and was on stage for nearly two hours.

She opened up with “De Ja Vu” which mixed into “Cray in Love”. She then performed a few tracks off the “I Am” album then went on to “B’Day”. Sasha Fierce then decided to enter the building and we were entertained with her more up tempo tracks. “Radio” and “Diva” went down well and enabled Beyonce to showcase her tight and very well put together choreography. Of course she had to do a Destiny’s Child medley and did a few tracks of her debut album “Dangerously in Love”. She ended the night on “Single Ladies” the anthem of last year that spawned numerous You Tube videos.

Her singing and dancing was consistent throughout the whole night and a lot of thought had gone into this tour. This was evident from the mini videos/films that she created before hand and played throughout the show. Last night clarified that Beyonce clearly loves performing and that she has worked very hard to get to where she is today. Overall it was a very good concert and definitely good value for money.

Today has got to be...

the worst day I have had in a very long time!!!!! It was your typical EVERYTHING goes wrong day and I need some where to vent my frustration. I didn’t wake up in the best of moods but I reminded myself that it’s all about Positive Mental Attitude (side- eye).

I was working on TV today and the evening programme went to pot as the show kept changing. My scripts had yet to be checked (not good considering the news programme had already started) and anyone who works within media understands that presenters can be divas sometimes. Then new stories were added and I forgot to inform the presenter- BIG SIGH!!!! Oops my bad hence a Diva tantrum alert lol. I then had to do additional work for my Entertainment slot this coming Sunday. This included doing a quick vox with the good old London folk.

The icing on the cake was that when it was time to put my stories up online the sub editors informed me they couldn’t live them as I don’t have my own log in. It’s now 9:54pm and I am still at work. Oh yeah I haven’t really eaten properly either- bring out the violins.

I now have to go home and pack my mini suitcase as I’m working all day tomorrow until 7pm. I will then trek to the other side of London to get my hair relaxed (my friend will do it for free) and stay over. Then on Saturday go to my hairdresser (who resides a good hour away on public transport) so that she can cut/trim my hair and add a fringe. Then fly down to Birmingham as I managed to wrangle myself a press ticket to go and see Beyonce- of course London’s sold out. Return to London on Sunday go straight to church, and get ready for my Ents slot which takes place at 1am Monday morning. My head hurts just thinking about this weekend. Times like these I need a car, oh well as a friend of mine often says’ success doesn’t rest!
