It's cool to be smart!

Michelle Obama made an appearance at the Elizabeth Garret Anderson School in Islington yesterday. I’m sure many pupils up and down the UK are shouting THAT IS SO NOT FAIR! Anyway Michelle made a really nice speech yesterday and touched on the importance of getting an education amongst other things. Mrs Obama said "I never cut class. I loved getting As, I liked being smart. I liked being on time. I thought being smart is cooler than anything in the world….You, too, with these values, can control your own destiny. You, too, can pave the way."

It is so refreshing to have a role model that can demonstrate the importance of learning. Especially when the society we live in seems to focus on quick fixes and when young women aspire to become WAGS or appear on reality TV programmes to make a career for them selves. It seems we get to an age where we think we have learnt everything errrr NO!
I have jumped onto the learning bandwagon and am dedicating 2009 to gaining new skills. As apart from work and University I haven’t really challenged myself mentally. So I have enrolled onto a Drama and Vocal Training course which starts in a few weeks time. I can honestly say I’m excited as I know that this course is an investment for my future and will also help me gain even more confidence. Already I am thinking of what course to do once my drama one ends and I am really interested in Psychology. As there is another career/side path I am thinking of going into.
In these times you need to be multi skilled and indispensable come on now! We need to step outside of our comfort zone and explore new things, instead of playing it safe all the time. We have the potential to do so much more but half the time we never challenge ourselves to take that next step. I know I will be watch this space….

Good times....

Spring is finally here YEAH! I had a nice spontaneous day with my home girl and what fun we had! First off we bopped to a playback for this new artist called Corneille who is signed to Universal/ Motown Records. His music sounded pretty good watch this space. Plus I’m a girl who loves a freebie at heart whether it be a gig, food, music, clothes or more food ha ha. Then we got a little side tracked and heavily influenced by the heat of the sun and decided to spend the rest of the day ramping (you’re never too old to ramp). It occurred to me that there is so much to London that I still haven’t seen. Today was my first official tourist day for a long time and may there be plenty more to come. Roll on the open bus tour waltzing…..

Oh dear!

Not that I’m surprised but it’s a tad shame for our dear old Kelly. (I can call her that as she permanently resides in the UK). The poor lass has left/been dropped from Columbia. To be honest I don’t know where she’s going to go from here.
It all went belly up when Destiny’s Child parted ways. Of course Mrs Carter/ Beyonce/ Sasha Fierce was going to dominate the world STANDARD! I didn’t anticipate seeing much of Michelle but I had a bit of hope for Kelly. She released two albums the latter Miss Kelly, which was okaaay nothing special. Then she released it again never a good sign! She moved here to the UK why I’m not sure? Some how I don’t think the Americans that once supported her whilst she was in DC have love for her no mo. Then she was spotted at any and every event around London including the beat down ones in the hood. NO KELLY NO!

I predict she will do hooks/choruses on other artists tracks, a bit of modelling here and there, try her hand at presenting and red carpet events down good old Leicester Square. Then again she may try and release another album….. She is a talented young lady and I hope she doesn’t fall by the way side. Although it seems that may have already happened.

"The Comeback"

So Big Pooh of hip-hop group Little Brothers has decided to spread his wings and goes solo. The rhymester is gonna drop four not one different versions of his new album “The Delightful Bars”. The album covers leave little to the imagination hmmmm... I thought we had moved on from the derogatory pictures of women oh well. The Comeback is his first single and it sounds aiiight!!!! I like the beat not loving the video though! Doesn’t the chorus sound mighty familiar? Busta Rhymes As I Come Back? I’m off to try and find a sample of the album, check the video below.

P.S Why do the majority of rappers feel the need to habitually swear all over their tracks…but really?!?!?!?
